We highly recommend you use the filter insert for an added layer of protection. If you do not have a face mask filter, you can use a clean coffee gilter, a vacuum bag, or swiffer floor duster. Simply cut one of those item to fit inisde the filter pocket. Be sure to replace the filter often and take it out before washing the face mask.
